Wilbury House is one of Unicare’s established supported living services in Brighton and Hove, providing specialist support to a mixed community of adults — both men and women — whose lives are shaped by mental health conditions, autism spectrum conditions, and learning disabilities. The service combines the warmth and individuality of a genuine home with the clinical rigour and specialist expertise that this group of people requires and deserves.
Wilbury House is part of a wider Unicare Brighton and Hove cluster, which means residents benefit from the organisational depth, specialist clinical resources, and established commissioning relationships that a multi-site, experienced provider brings. The service is individually led — every resident’s support plan is specific to them — but it operates within a consistent and evidence-based framework that ensures quality and safety across every shift, every interaction, and every decision.
Support at Wilbury House is delivered within Unicare’s PBS framework, with every resident having a comprehensive Behaviour Support Plan that reflects their individual communication style, sensory profile, emotional regulation needs, mental health presentation, and personal goals. The PBS approach is complemented by a trauma-informed model that recognises the high prevalence of adverse childhood experiences and traumatic histories among adults with combined mental health, autism, and learning disability presentations.
The service places significant emphasis on skill development and graduated independence — helping residents to build confidence, develop daily living skills, access the community, and work towards their own goals for the future. Outcomes for residents at Wilbury House are tracked through regular reviews in collaboration with placing commissioners and families.
The Wilbury House staff team includes both male and female workers, reflecting the mixed nature of the service and ensuring that gender-sensitive support is available to all residents. All staff are trained in PBS, trauma-informed practice, mental health awareness, autism and learning disability, MCA and DoLS, safeguarding, and Unicare’s clinical competency framework. The team is led by a committed House Manager and supported by Unicare’s Service Manager and PBS Specialist.
Unicare’s Registered Manager, Rashied Shote, maintains close oversight of the Wilbury House service and is actively involved in ensuring the quality and consistency of care. The staffing model prioritises continuity — residents have a named key worker and a consistent core team — because we understand that relationship stability is a therapeutic necessity for this group, not simply a preference.
